We recently added another 25 metres of electric fencing to our system to give the hens more space as well as to let the ground recover from the demolition the girls had done to it over the winter!
We use Hotline Poultry Netting which is straightforward to install and extends the netting we currently use. The new netting clips to the exiting fence to maintain the current through the fence and we added some intermediate posts to help keep the netting as taught as possible. We also added some tent pegs to the lowest horizontal wire to keep the fence close to the ground.
This now gives the hens an ‘L’ shaped run – with grass! – and means we can section off parts of it to let the ground recover – the hens had removed every single blade of grass form the existing run!
