Today we said goodbye to Lupin. She was one of the group of 12 hens that we named ‘The Laurels’ that were re-homed in May 2017 and she had over 11 months with us.
Lupin had a limp when she first arrived and spent her first few weeks indoors recuperating with Petal. She was a small hen and because she was separated from the others she spent more time with us at the beginning, sitting on our laps, and enjoying the sunshine on her back as she healed. Lupin soon recovered fully and it was lovely to watch her explore her surroundings as she started to enjoy her new life once she and Petal had their integration issues with the other hens resolved!
Lupin remained at the bottom end of the pecking order though but as more hens arrived over the summer she took the chance to assert herself over them and moved up the ranks, establishing herself in the overall flock and getting on with enjoying her new life.
However, she became ill recently and despite 2 weeks of medication, she was in a bad way, and we did the last kind thing we could do for her, and took her to the vet to stop her suffering.
Such as lovely, adorable hen.
Fly high sweet girl.
