Today we lost Mary. She appeared fine yesterday but we found her this morning struggling for breath and clearly in discomfort. Unfortunately we know these signs and the only thing we could do for her was a final act of kindness to take her to the vet to end her suffering.
Mary was one of The Roses, that we re-homed in November, and sadly only had 33 days with us. Those were 33 days more than she would have otherwise have had though, and in that time was cared for, kept safe, and had as much food as she wanted. This group appeared a little on the large side when they first arrived and ironically Mary was a normal weight, and one of the hens we were least concerned about, and from the start she got on with her new life and showed no signs of illness until today.
Fly high sweet girl.
