We have a British Hen Welfare Trust re-homing tomorrow and we’ll be bringing back our next group, The Roses. Rather than deal with makeshift accommodation that we’ve constructed recently for the unplanned groups that have been re-homed we’ve made a dedicated area for the hens in a section of our barn.
We have 2 secure walk-in areas constructed with the panels we made recently as well as all of their supplies near to hand, and of course 2 seats as a viewing gallery for us! One of these areas is all set up for arrival of The Roses – fresh woodchip, a hanging feeder and drinker, nesting areas (in co-ordinating red!) and some dried lavender to hopefully help with any stress as well as providing interest.
As well as being used as a quarantine area for new hens, we’ll also use this as a hospital area or when we need to separate hens. All that’s needed now is a group of hens about to start their retirement with us – bring on tomorrow!
