A milestone today as The Laurels reached 6 months with us. These are the group of 12 hens we re-homed in May, named after Laurel, a very special hen who passed away at the end of last year. Whilst we’d like all of the hens we re-home to live a long life, the reality is they don’t, and every day they’re living their life to the full is a good day, and cause for celebration when they reach these 6 monthly anniversaries.
As The Laurels had invited 30 other little guests to their party, we made their main cake and 3 others, each with a ‘6’ made from fruit or tomatoes, on top of scrambled egg icing. We did try and get a group photo of all 12 with their cake, but this proved impossible as some of the little darlings seemed more interested in digging up worms than sampling the delight we’d made for them! They enjoyed the treats though, and we tried to ensure that each of the rest of the hens had at least some of the cake, but it all got a bit frantic with chicken feet narrowly missing human feet in the excitement!
Happy Henniversary Blossom, Buttercup, Daisy, Iris, Lilac, Lupin, Pansy, Peony, Petal, Poppy, Tulip and Violet!
